Re: Four Clubs
Putter to start with. Some people might choose to putt with some other club, but over 18 holes, that’s a lot of strokes to be making in a "makeshift" fashion.
Then a wedge, probably a SW. Handy around the green and while some days you may never even get in a bunker, there are those other days when you seem to find them all.Covers from about 100 or so to the green.
Probably a 7 iron. Can be worked down to 100 yards, in a pinch.
The last club would depend on the course.. I could make a case for driver or 3W/5W. The par fives are a given, assuming you can cover them in three shots with most any choice and probably not trying to get home in two. Driver, 7 iron, 7 iron or 3W, 3W, SW, etc.
Most important, IMO, is how long are the par fours? Can you cover most of them with 3W, 7 iron and then 3W, 3W on the long ones? Or do you need Driver, 7 iron and give up the long fairway club and try to get up and down with 7 iron/SW on the long ones? Do you even have any long par fours? Are they all long par fours?
Secondarily. How long are the par threes? How many can you cover with the 7 iron? What can you hit on the long ones.? Can you get up and down with 7 iron, SW? How many strokes are you giving up, potentially?
On my home course I would take driver because the extra distance over the 3W on three or four holes make them much easier to play.......making dog legs, getting to the top of the hill on one hole, getting to the bottom of the hill on another hole. Plus the two long par fours are hard to hit in two even with a full bag. Wouldn’t give up much, if anything, getting on in three.
