  • Same swing for irons versus woods?

    Hi guys

Was wondering what your thoughts are on this one?We are often told that we have the same swing for whatever club we have in the hand. But I beg to differ. I actually think we hit the ball differently with an iron and a fairway wood. Would you guys agree?

    Thanks mahbo

I would say that the swing tempo and your perceived effort should remain the same, but the longer clubs are by nature flatter and more "swept" as opposed to irons which are shorter and steeper. Now - just to bake your noodle, how would you swing a hybrid or wood or iron if they were all the same length and all the same weight/swingweight/etc?

IMO, a set should be built so that all a player has to do is try to move their body in the same way and the club should produce the desired result. Build a set so that your posture never changes.

Would that be using TLT so the club lengths are similar?

Thanks lo post. Not sure how I would swing ?

I think for me it started with a realization that with irons I was able to cut and hit the ball a bit more and even get away with not releasing enough with the irons. It is still a respectable shot. I think the issue for me is with the woods I felt the need for more hand manipulation to get the ball going.

I have a slight issue right now of pulling my irons and realized I was too handsy. These pulls on par threes were really hurting me. So I started experimenting with trying to cut the ball and needed to work out how to be to best take out the left side .found the irons were more forgiving for bad shots. Thanks mah
