  • The Perfect Grip?

    Hi,

I played last weekend and the guy that I was playing with mentioned that there are grips that you can get fitted to your clubs that make you hold the club with a perfect grip. Is this true? Surely this is a big help, so why doesn't everyone use them? Are they expansive?

    Thanks

    Re: The Perfect Grip?

The molded grips are relatively cheap (well, when compared to say, a new driver - they're about twice the price of normal grip), and they're great aids in learning how to grip a golf club.

But, as it has already been stated, the grips are illegal for tournament play, and aren't designed to let you weaken/strengthen your grip to play different shots.

The closest thing you could get that is legal is the Butch Harmon gloves - they've got markings on the knuckes (I think) that line up once you've got both hands in a proper position.

Yes it’s true. But aside from the points everyone gave you there’s another reason everyone isn’t using them; THERE IS NO ONE PERFECT GRIP.

People’s anatomy is different so a neutral grip for you may not be a neutral grip for me or one of your playing partners. A neutral grip is based on how your hands hang naturally. If you bend over slightly and let your left arm hang your left hand will point somewhat medial or center. For some people the left hand will point a little more to the right, for others a little more to the left. How your left hand hands is how you want to place it on the club whether the V’s point to your right shoulder or not.

Golfers will find much improvement if they get out of the “one size fits all” mode and learn to use principles.
