Yardage change over Winter

If I hit my 6 iron 160 yards at the height of this summer with perfect conditions, how far should i be hitting it now, in December. The temperature is on average about 10 degrees where i live. I want to know how much by because it has dropped (I know it does drop but by how much) and I want to know if swing changes have meant that it isn't going as far as it should.

My 6 iron is going about 145-150 yards.

10 Degrees?!?! You are kidding me... I hope this is Celsius nor Fahrenheit.

The distance is about 10% less, so your 160 shot going 145-150 is correct. The type of ball most used is a soft cover in the summer @ 100 compression and switch to a harder cover @ 90 compression. The harder cover gives you better distance, and the less compression helps compress the ball in the cold.

I'm not sure what swing changes you are talking about...are you changing you swing? If so, then sure, this could be due to changes, but you would hope the changes would make the ball go farther (-;

Do u know anything or any where i can get sumthing i to measure actually how far i hit the ball? Cos i'm never quite sure, the range is ok but i'm not sure how accurate they are ( the 100 yard marker is further away than 110 yards im sure!) and on the course i sometimes come up way short, when i think its 150 yards (my course lacks good yardage markings). I drop a ball, hit a perfect 5 iron, and it still comes up short suggesting its 170 yds+ when the course says its 150 yards to the centre of the green.

Having something that can measure yardages in a practice round would help.

Buy a Bushnell Yardage Pro.

It's a couple hundred bucks (CDN), and it's accurate to +/- 1 yard. Stand still, and 'shoot' your ball.

Handy if you have some cash to spend.

A GPS system would also work. You could measure right down to the millimeter!

Golf simulators may also be the way to go. I find they aren't exactly accurate either, but much more accurate than determining distance at the range where you are using old, beat up balls.

I think this is a really good point, not sure about Canada or the USA, but in the UK not only do the weather changes affect the distance we hit but different courses have different yardage measuring equiptment, this I am sure of.

Every course I play is different some are 150 to the green centre, some are 150 to the front of the green (which should be the standard way in my opinion) as it is on yardage charts.

Then to make thing harder they appear to be measured wrong it says 150 to the centre and you only reach the front or fly the back with a good shot.

What is the standard and what do they use to measure the courses before sticking the 150 markers into the ground, (guess work I suspect)??

Championship courses are allways correct, why can't the others follow suit???
