    Re: Holding off the finish

It may appear that you are holding off your finish if you are playing a hook or a knock down shot. When Tiger hits his 'stinger' he holds back on his follow through.

Apparently your finish effects your ball flight - full finish for high ball flight, low finish for low ball flight.

Dave Pelz talks about this in respect to pitches.

When Tiger 'holds off the finish' as you call it, he is trying to keep the ball flight lower than normal. It's a full swing, full power but a much shallower approach to impact and he stops his forearms from pronating and his follow through keeps the forearms and hands square to target.

With the shallower approach, hands ahead of the ball - he traps the ball (not a punch shot) and it comes off the face mch lower but with the same ball speed (sometimes more) as his 'stock swing'.

He normally puts a bit of cut spin as well to keep the ball lower and it 'power fades' from square-to-target to right of target.

Don't try anything Tiger does ... trust me on this one. I get LOTS of students who want me to make their swing like Tiger's, or hit a 2-iron like Tiger ... all sorts and unfortunately unless you have the strength, consistency and accuracy at impact and club head speed of Tiger, don't even try.
