  • New Years Resolution

    Ok it's New Years Eve.

Time to make your New Years Resolution.

    What are your targets ?

What do you want to achieve ?

Where do you want to be this time next year ?

What will you work on ?

    ME,

I am still working hard on my swing changes after several lessons and next year I am going to break 75 consistantly maybe par.
I am also going to fine tune my mind until the season starts to help achieve my targets.
My friend gave me a Cuban Cigar a few weeks ago but I don't smoke, I have put it in my golf bag, when I break 75 in a comp I will lite it up.

    Ian.

    Re: New Years Resolution

Me, I want to get my wesbite and instruction video sets finished. I started it a over a year ago and after changing production companies 3 times, I think I have finally found someone who understands what I want and works just as hard as I do to make it perfect.

I want to work on my swing this year to make it shorter, I tend to overswing by a few inches sometimes. I have a slightly bent left leg through impact, which doesn't affect my game but it looks stupid. I need to work on that as well.

I want to play more - at least once a week. By this time next year, I want to get my game back to where I can walk off the golf course feeling that I didn't leave any shots out there. I need to work on my short game, it is pretty good for someone who never practices and plays once a month but I hate shooting a score and go home knowing it could have been better. It unsettles me in my soul ...

My biggest aim of all is to get into better shape by starting a fitness program through my good friend Mike Pederson at golftrainer.com. Strecthing and aerobic fitness will be my focus.

One final aim: to shoot another 65.

Ian, you can break 75 and par and you know how. Map it out!

      Re: New Years Resolution

I have a deal with one of my friends 5 years ago that by the end of 2005 I would be down to, or below, a 6 handicap. At the time I was a 22. Last year I stayed the same as the year before (8.6 index) but I made some drastic improvements in my swing. By the end of the year I was starting to hit the way I always knew I could and my distance is farther than I ever dreamed. Now that I know all my distances again and I have the confidence I should be able to knock those last 3 points off my index and collect on the $100 bet!

        Re: New Years Resolution

My goal is to find some consistent playing partners, so that I can get myself a hcp. Last year I played solo - save 3 or 4 mens' nights - working on my game, learning about golf, trying new shots, building a swing, etc.

So it's time to find out where my handicap lies, then work on getting it down.

My secondary resolution is to try to find time to practice every day during the season - mostly short game stuff (go Dave Pelz!)

          Re: New Years Resolution

          Happy New Year all,

Another productive day at work (Overtime of course!)!

My goals are similar to Low Post but possibly a few months ahead,1st handicap of 22 obtained last year and looking to get this down to low teens by mid Summer.

I've got a regular game but need to play more in competitions. I'm still rubbish but think I can take on the world each time I get on the tee!!

Short term aim - regularly shoot 85-90 by March then break 80 by our 1 week of good Summer weather in May!

            Happy new year to everyone.

My goal is to let Teaching Pro get my handicap down and pay the almighty debt of a cold one.

I'll be focusing on my short game , mainly putting and have already started my fittness program but Darling if you're reading this I am not going to give up smoking the government needs all the taxes it can get

Happy hunting in 2005 everyone lets all make the effort and get to that next level.Golf should be enjoyed but isn't sweet when you've had a blinder.

An Australian term for "awesome". In Kiwi's context, he saying isn't it sweet when you have an awesome round?

                  Happy new year all.

Ended my first real year, i.e. played every weekend and twice in the summer, and got my handicap. 33 but it's a start. This year I plan to break the 25 mark. Slowly, slowly catchy monkey.

Happy hitting and remember if your arm is broken go to the arm doctor, if your swing is broken go to the swing doctor.

Target for the year: Get the handicap down to 2.4.....1.6 to go....

Best of luck to everyone with their aims for the year.

Great to hear the long term goals! It's always good to have a long term goal and many short term goals on how to get to the long term goal. Best of luck Ricky!!

                        Re: New Years Resolution

I started full time work in oct last year and have only played 1 round since. just before new year. So the early goals are to get my flexiblity back, I am so stiff after the round the other week, I went to the driving range last Sunday and I couldn't hold the flex in my right knee on my backswing.

                          Guys,

Its June 30th six months into the year, Hows you new years resolutions going.

                          Me

I broke 75 early in the year, not got down to 5 yet still struggling to keep it together over the last few holes, being 2 over twice on 16 and keep dropping 4 or more on the last 2/3 coming in.
Didn't lite the cigar up (couldn't face it) I just don't smoke, it's in my trophy cabinet.

                          What about you......

                          Ian.

Good point Ian. 2.5 months into the golf season here. I play a regular match on Sunday (18 holes) and play mens' night every wednesday (9 holes). Because we're a 9 hole course, I've got 2 handicaps. My 9n is 19, and my RCGA HCP is 32. (For the record, I've got 20 or so 9 hole scores, and like, 8 18 hole scores). I'm still inconsistent in my ball striking, and a couple of blowup holes keep the old index high.

Unfortunately, my secondary resolution isn't going quite so well - the theory being that if I can start hitting more greens with my full swing, I won't need to have too many short-game shots.

My new years resolution having just taken up golf seriously.

                              1. Is to correct all the bad habits I have from years a hacking around. Im having lessons and my fundimentals are much improved.

                              2. Become a more relaxed player and enjoy the course a bit more, I love to play but do get a little angry when things are not going right, This is because i am quite good at all sports and dont like not being good at golf!

                              3. Finally a longer goal is to become a single figure handicap player. At 28 im looking to become a sound golfer so when I stop playing football in a few years I can take up golf as my number 1 sport and be good at it and play tourney's and stuff!

                              4. I WILL DO IT! Just wait!
