      Re: Reverse Pivot

Greg's drill is probably the best solution to your problem, but here's a litle background....

The most common cause that creates a reverse pivot is an incorrect turn. Many recreational golfers are guilty of what is know as a 'fake turn'. This may fee like a real turn, but is really only a dip of the left shoulder. Dipping your left shoulder puts your weight over your left leg and you now have nowhere to shift your weight on your throughswing except away from the target.

If the left shoulder dip is what is causing your reverse pivot, you need to practice a full and level turn of the shoulders. At the top of your backswing, your shoulders should be 90* to the target line.

        Re: Reverse Pivot

I too was guilty of the reverse pivot, the big shoulder dip, the backwards C, whatever you want to call it. Seeing it on video really helped me turn the corner - at the top of my backswing, you could see I had all my weight loaded on my front leg.

One way to see this is to take your stance in facing a full-length mirror. Your trailing side (right side for a right handed golfer) should be concave, while your lead side should form a relatively straight line. The concave won't be very pronouced, but it will be there. Now, the trick is to keep that concave throughout the backswing. If you reverse pivot, your lead side will be come very concave.

The easiest way I've learned to avoid a shoulder dip (and to promote a good takeaway and backswing) is this:

Without a club, take your stance, and grip your lead thumb. Lean away from the target slightly (so that your spine is now slightly angled away from the target - keeping your hips flat and level). Now pull your lead arm across your chest and under your chin. As you pull your lead arm across, you will naturally turn, and start to load the right side. Your left knee shouldn't flex much at all.

Also, if you want to check if you are in the correct position at the top of the backswing, your left shoulder should be over top of your right knee...
