  • Inconsistent stance

I am having a problem with my stance when on the fairway.

It happens more in the last 4 holes after completing 14 or so that makes me think that it has something to do with fatigue.

The problem is that I hit the ground with the club before I make contact with the ball, I seem to bend my knees whilst swinging the club downwards toward the ball which then makes the club hit the ground before hitting the ball.

How can I ensure that I don’t bend my legs more when I am in the middle of the down swing but stay in the position that I was in when making the back swing.

    Thanks guys

    Re: Inconsistent stance

    Hi John,

It sounds to me like you maybe tired towards the end of you round, this maybe causing problems in the swing.

You are probably dipping with you shoulders and not turning them when you are tired, I doubt very much it is you stance unless you are physically wrecked to the point where walking is painful.

Stance is in my opinion the most important part of the swing, if you are no athletic your swing will not be athletic, if you aim the wrong way you will swing poorly because your unconcious mind will try to corect the poor alinement hence slices...........etc.

You are not much older than I and you are a postman, I thought postmen walked for a living, I sit on my backside in an office all day.

I would make a concious effort with the last four holes to finish strong and par in, don't think harder about the swing on the last four or you will fall apart for sure.

    Hope this helps

    Ian.

You guys have hit the nail on the head pointing this out to fatigue. John - make sure you stay hydrated on the course (you should drink at least a litre of water for 18 holes) and bring some fruit along as well to help you restore some energy for the later rounds. A banana (CPR for fatigued muscles) and an apple or orange should help boost you through the last 4 holes of your round.

If yor fatigue is beyond a nutritional need, try taking a Pilates for golf class. This will help strengthen your core muscles. Pilates also teaches the proper breathing technique for sports so you have more endurance.

Thanks for your valued comments! I never considered that it may be my shoulders dipping rather than my knees. I will certainly think more about that next round.

I must admit I never tend to take any fruit or food out on the course so another thing I will change.

Ian, it is a while since I walked the street although I still work for the Post Office but like you I now have an office job so it is great to get out in the fresh air.

Role on the spring which will make it ever more enjoyable.
