  • Hand Action

Hi, I came to golf at 40 (ie not my first sport), and though I've managed to get down to 6, I know that my hand action is not good (tends to cup, and club gets ahead of the ball through impact), and know that I'd improve my whole game if I got it sorted. Are there any good drills I can work on please ?
    Regards

    Phil

      Hi,
Thanks for that. I know that I have always tried to hit the ball with my left hand in the past as I was conscious of being too 'right-sided', coming to golf from squash and tennis.
Can I also ask, is there any difference in the action of the hands, either in the plane, or the release, between different clubs, say a wood and a 9-iron ?
      Regards

      Phil

Yes. The steepness of the angle of atack on a ball is regulated by the amount or aggressivness of the hands. Use more for irons to make the ball go higher, and less for woods to make then fly lower.

Here is drill to make sure that the hands are leading the clubhead

You need a golf club and pole

Combine the pole and the glf club

now take your grip You will notice that the pole extends right above your left shoulder

Now hit some chips if your left wrist is breaking down the pole will touch your left shoulder

The goal is to keep the pole from hitting your shoulder

You will find in order to do this the hands must lead the club

This will greatly improve your chipping pitching and produce tremendous results in your full swing

Write back if you have any questions

          Write back with your success
