  • Ball Distance

I always wanted to know what the average distance is for each club for an average player. I know it's kind of vague but when I say average player I mean someone who plays recreationally.

Here's my iron stats based on 95% power and hit straight w/ clean sweet spot contact. I am 5'8" and 146lbs.

    PW 130 yds
    9 140 yds
    8 150 yds
    7 160 yds
    6 170 yds
    5 180 yds
    4 195 yds
    3 205 yds

    Thanks

In my experience you're right on the money, maybe a little longer than average actually. By average, I don't mean the real choppers ... I mean a mid handicapper who hits some good shots and plays consistently.

In fact ... you're as "long" as me, almost yard for yard. I don't carry a 3-iron but I use a 7-wood instead. Not quite sure what that is suppose to mean but if I can play reasonably successfully on mini-tours with that sort of distance then you should do be just fine at club level. I've never been a long hitter and I have been a scratch player since I was 15 (so that's 18 years).

Don't let your distance trouble you. You're plently long enough to get round th golf course and break par if you hit it well enough. Trust me.

No, a 5-wood is like a 3-iron but I hardly ever hit my 3-iron so I leave it out!

Callaway Steel Head Plus (the blue one) with regular graphite shaft. When I got it from the tour van I bent it 1 degree strong. Swing weighted D2, so a bit heavier than normal.

                Isn't a 3I 21*? A 5W is 18* and a 7W is 21*

Gord, yes roughly depending on the manufacturer's specs but substitutes are calculated on 'average distance' not the loft per se.

Stop spin and backspin are the same thing. Stop spin stops the ball and backspin has more rev's so it makes the ball roll backwards.

I know some are 1 or even 2 degrees off, but I always thought a 2I was the 5W equivilant (since each are about 18*). I have a Mizuno 2I and a Cleveland 5W and I get roughly the same distance from each.

                          Re: Ball Distance

It could be that you hit your 5-wood as far as your 2-iron. But I've always thought a 5w=3i 7w=4i. I'm open to correction.

Im not shure tho as i hit my 7wood further than my 3wood as it has stiff shaft :O but im killing the stiff shaft asap and teacher backspin
