  • Getting the club on plane

I'm having problems getting the club on plane. I think the problem starts once the club is parrallel to the ground.( My 1st check point the club in parrallel to the target line. My 2nd check point is when the left arm is parrallel to the ground. Here when I look at the position of the club shaft it looks on plain however when I look at it though the cam corder recording I'm not on plane. Any tips guy's because this is really bugging me. If you look video upload you will see what I mean. Cheers.

      Phil,

You say your club is on plane when parallel to the ground. So, is your club parallel to the ground and the target line at the top of your backswing? If yes, you have nopthing to wory about. You would have to do some really weird movements in between the two positions above to be off plane in between.

The short answer is YES - it's to keep the clubface square.

Staying on plane on the backswing will get you in the correct position at the top. If you are not in the correct position at the top, you can run into all sorts of problems. For example, if you are too low at the top, an over the top movement is probably in your future and a big slice to follow.

You can manipulate a good shot by not staying on plane, but it takes a lot of practice getting your clubface square at impact consistantly.
