  • Swing help please!! :)

    I just put my swing in the photo area (they are waiting for acceptance as i write this) and i know i am swinging round myself and the swing plane is too flat. I feel my downswing is then fighting to get it back on plane.

    When i swing it feels like i'm on plane but when i look at it, i'm obvously not. Does any one know drills to make sure i get the correct feeling and in the right position.

    At the moment, between the str8 shots, i hit low pulls and blocked pushes simply because my hands try to save it, and if they dont the block occurs. I feel if i sort the swing plane out i'll be fore confident swinging because at the moment im holding back. I feel if i swing fully and i hit my bad shot, i'll go very wrong (i've tried it). Also having a block and a pull is hard as i neva know which side i'll miss.

      I have answered you swing question in the gallery, find attach this photo to help with the swing plane.

      Video yourself and draw the lines on the TV or PC to check swing plane.

      The bottom line is throught the shaft at address and the upper line is ball through shoulder.

        I'd agree with Ian ... the swing is fine, the critical positions are ok save for two "moves". Ian pointed out how when the clubhead starts to point skyward, your shoulder turn needs to be more vertical and the hands need to move up more than they do around. Your shoulders turn in a horizontal plane (very flat) rather than turning in a slightly vertical plane, which gets the club 'up' rather than around.

        But also DTL, between photo 2 and 3, you've gone inside way too quickly. Keep your arms in front of your chest rather than behind it ... it will make a big difference to being able to some height at the top of your swing. Try to imagine that your chest should be able to 'see' your hands almost all the way to the top.

        Look at Harrison Frazar of the PGA Tour. He has one of the best positions I have ever seen. See how his shoulders are turned vertically ... yours arent, which is why the club ends up behind you. You're in a similar position to where Sergio Garcia was and that's why for a long time he struggled with pull hooks.

          Any drills for turning the shoulders more vertically or do i concentrate on moving the left shoulder beneath my chin? Should i let my shoulders put the club on plane or actually concentrate on putting my arms and hand in position.

          Is the downswing ok?

            Try my two drills:

            First, find out where the correct position at the top is:

            In you address position, club in hands, raise your arms to parallel. Next, cock your wrists 90* so your club is pointing skyward. Last, turn your shoulders 90* away from the target (with left shoulder over right knee). This will get you into the proper position at the top.

            Then to get to the above position with your backswing, try this:

            Again, in your address position, start your backswing with your arms only (I know, backswing is supposed to start with the shoulders - we'll get to that at the end.) When your CLUB gets to parallel, stop. Cock your wrists 90* so your club is pointing skyward. Last, turn your shoulders 90* away from the target (with left shoulder over your right knee). This should get you into the same position as the above drill. For the first few times, try these drills infront of a full length mirror so you can see how it looks.

            As for the second drill, keep this as 3 distinct moves. This drill is to teach your muscles to how far the arms, shoulders and wrists move. Once this is engrained and you know how the stretch at the top of your swing feels, start SLOWLY blending the three parts into one. As you get closer to your natural tempo, use your shoulders to start the take away, as how you are supposed to correctly start the take away.

              I recommend those drills for sure.

              The downswing is fine consdering you're coming off a flat 'top position' which means your downswing will also be flat. A good hold with the hands until hip height. Nicely through ... not too many obvious problems.
