  • Driver - Hands Before Ball Slightly?

Well when i was watching erni els's swing in slo - mo i see at the start before the takeaway he moves his hands slighlty, so there just over the start off the golf ball, is this just to help his setup or is there a technial thing about it? to watch the video go here

I didn't see him move them, (like a forward press?)

Ernie has always had a forward press. I played junior golf with him and he's always had it.

What it does is it starts his swing off, like a swing trigger and the timing works around from there. He does with all his clubs. Sometimes it's more noticeable than others but it's always there.

I was also wondering whether it also introduces a slight "set" in the right wrist to eliminate excessive action through the swing. This might just be legacy of course and now just acts as a swing trigger.

Following on from some advice from Greg, as I've been getting too wristy through the swing I've introduced a forward press and it seems to make a difference.
