  • Grip on Longer Shafts - Mulipart question

Is it possible that it would be necessary to take a slightly stronger grip on the longer clubs that on the shorter clubs?

I tend to hook balls with shorter clubs and slice the longer ones.

For example, my driver is an Adams Ties Lies GT Titanium with stiff shaft 9 degrees. With this club, I tend to slice the ball. When I grip a little stronger, I hook. If I try to take the club back a little lower, I hook. When I try to swing more in front of my body, I slice.

The other day, I hit a Titleist 983 with the Speeder shaft 8.5 degrees. Launched it! I mean like 283 yards. That's probably 30 yards longer than my best drive with the Adams. This club tended to hit straighter with a slight draw starting right of the target line.

Is it possible that a different club is right, or is it the grip? Should I go pro with my new 283 yard drive? Just kidding.

    jspivey,

What kind of shaft is in the Adams, (Brand)? The shaft being the engine of the club should meet your clubhead speed. The Shaft industry has no guidlines to rates of stiffness. They vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. The "livelyness" of a shaft is also a matter of debate. Try alot of demo clubs and ask people if you can try thier driver. Graphite as good as it's getting has been using different techniques to wind it. Also the new composites and filament windings are changing the shafts again.

It may be that your new club may need a better or different shaft.
