  • Gripping with a wrist injury.

I've read a few articles about grips and was wondering how different grips can affect the swing.

I have an injured left wrist (I'm a right handed player) I have a broken Scaphiod bone at the base of my thumb, I broke my wrist a few years ago which went undetected, and to cap it all, I needed an operation to correct tendonitis. All 3 can give me pain from time to time, which I why I tend to use the Baseball type grip (no overlapping of fingers) as its the most comfortable. I have tried the grip recommended in most magazines and teaching videos, but I find that the weight of the club is enough to start making my wrist feel uncomfortable, and I dont feel in control of the club, as my stronger right hand took a more supporting role

When buying my clubs I imagined that getting graphite shafts might help, but the weight difference was negligable so plumped for regular steel shafts. (I bought a set of Wilson Deep Red Irons)

Is it a case of go what I feel comfortable with?

Will my current grip prevent me from performing certain shots?

    pthomlinson,

Being an engineer, I look for mechanical solutions mostly. That sounds like a bad injury.

Just some advice on the baseball grip for you. Other forum veiwer should disregard this. With an injury in that area strength is important. With a "right handed" swing you may want to get a little larger grip on your clubs. A Winn Grip Excel has alot of cushion and could make it more comfortable for you. The oversize would open the hand a little more and help the tendenitis. The oversize grip would also help with snaping the right wrist over, a common fault with a baseball grip.

Try it one one club and see how it feels. If it helps you found a compromise.
