  • Video cameras, are most new units capable of displaying

frame by frame shots. I had an older one and it never would give me a slow enough frame rate to really see my movement. Are there some cameras that are better for this than others?

Al, most good quality digital video cameras should do the job, as long as you can access the video as an MPEG file you can use windows media player to manipulate it once you transfer it to the PC. There are probably pieces of software out there that will help you manipulate the images with even greater variety. LowPost, Gord, GregJWillis or TeachingPro are probably the best to ask.

I'm a CSwing boy through and through, although I have been known to use the ATI File Player and take stills to mod through PhotoPaint.

LowPost, how does CSwing work and how does it benefit you when checking out your swing.

CSwing allows you to do a multitude of things, include measure swing speed and ball speed.

I like the fact that you can download pro swings and do a side-by-side comparison with your own swing.

The last thing I use it for is to check for swaying, bobbing, and angle maintenance - you use a rudimentary but effective drawing tool.

The next time I bust out the camcorder, I'll probably buy the full version (as my demo expired).

Actually, the frame rate is exactly the same for all video cameras. Where the frame-by-frame clarity comes from is shutter speed.

These days digital video cameras are the best because the pixilation is far better than older analogue cameras. Also, software is written to capture digital images and CSwing, V1 Pro, GASP, Mtion Coach, etc. all have direct import facilities from digital cameras.

I suggest you get a camera with a shutter speed of at least 2/1000ths and if you can get one with 5/1000ths or higher, we'll then you're styling!

Thanks Graham, I've been asking our tech guys some questions about cameras and none mentioned shutter speed so I really appreciate this additional bit of information.

Re: Video cameras, are most new units capable of displaying

I watch my video in Quicktime and if I pause it, I can move through my swing using the arrow keys on my keyboard. For me this works much better then windows players and others for clarity and being able to see what is going on, one other thing to consider is check the menu for capturing on the camera you can usually choose from size and format depending on if you are playing back on t.v screen, or different size computer monitors.

                  Cheers

Shouldn't you want a camcorder with a lower shutter speed so that the image is sharper? Why would you want 5/1000th's of a second if you can get 2/1000th's of a second?

I video taped myself today and BOY I finally saw what many have been mentioning to me about my swing. If you have never video taped your swing I's suggest that you do it ASAP; it is an incredible visual aid and will help you to recall and fix so many things about your swing.

Already doing this. The recordings are only helping to visually enforce many of the things he has pointed out.

Its one thing to be told, but something else to actually see it and be able to replay often to see if you're making the proper adjustments.

I agree - I made sweeping changes after seeing my hack on tape.

Now at least it's a touch prettier... I can't wait to tape again in the spring after a tuneup lesson.

I tape once a week with my digital camera and just save a few swings in my computer in chronological order so I can reference it if it goes bad. No disputing seeing my swing has made huge changes for the better for me too!
