  • Toe Divot / Loss of Distance with Long Irons

I am a 13 Handicap and want to get down to single digits. I am wondering what swing flaw causes the toe of the club make a deeper divot. I play a draw and when I miss hit I normally hook or pull the ball. I have trouble making the ball fade. I am a tall golfer (6'3" and 200lbs). Any help for this golfer would be greatly appreciated.
Looking to knock off a few more strokes.

I am willing to make a bet that you have never had your clubs custom fit. Even if you are playing with the proper length of shafts, you probably have never had your lie adjusted. The reason you are taking divits with the toe of your club is that the lie angle is too flat. You will need adjust the club to correct this. Take your clubs into your local clubmaker - I think it costs about $8/iron. If you have not lengthened the shafts, get that done while you are there as well.

      Gord,

I did have my shafts made for my height but I did not have the lies adjusted. Will take your advice and have the lies adjusted on my clubs. Hopefully that will get my divot looking correct.
      Thanks, Weathergolfer
