    Re: no hooks this summer

I think the biggest thing you need to do to prevent a hook is to not release the clubhead too early. Keep your right wrist cupped and don't release until after you have made contact with the ball.

I have a 4 handicap and have had exactly the same problem - I've been told by my pro to concentrate on transferring my weight onto the outside of my front foot as my hands are starting my downswing not my body-. If your swing thought is on your weight tranfer it means you'll speed your body up.

      Hope this helps

Try and work on hitting at the ball square rather than through it. This will stop you bringing the hands in too early and closing the face.

Also watch out for casting (bringing the club over the top). Use the towel under the arm trick:

Take a towel and roll it up.
Wedge it under your right arm.
When hitting the ball make sure the ball is away before letting the towel fall out.

This drill will stop you throwing the club away from you on the downswing. This encourages you to hit the ball from the inside.

wouldn't the drill work better with a towel under the left arm?

Am I thinking of the drill to stop the flying right elbow?

Keeping the towel under the right arm will stop you casting as well. It does for me anyway.

Check with Graham, I know one of the drills involves the towel, he will see you right anyway.

The reason I asked is because I can not get into the correct position at the top while trying to keep a towel under my right arm.

                Re: no hooks this summer

I posted this earlier in another section of the forum but here goes. ALL curvature of the golf ball is either an "under roll" or "over roll" of the hands through the ball.

For those that have this "hooking" problem I would make swings using a "blocking style release". In other words, try holding the clubface open longer. When you have successfully hit pushes and fades then you will be starting to learn clubface control.

"If you control your hands you control the clubface. When you control the clubface you control the ball and when you control the ball you control the game!

                  Re: no hooks this summer

Ricky, if your ball is started straight at the target when it comes off the clubface, you are coming through inside-square-inside. The reason you are hooking is because you are closing your face at impact, more than likely because you are releasing your hands too soon.

If you are finishing in a reverse C, you need to start your weight transfer on your right foot, finishing on your left foot. At the top of your backswing, ensure your left shoulder is over your right knee. This will leave you with no where else to go but towards the target with your weight transfer.

With a combination of a reverse C and a huge draw, you are proably swatting at the ball and have become very good at timing the impact. Work on the weight transfer first and foremost. Fixing the transfer just might fix the swatting by allowing you to swing through the ball instead of swatting at it as you pass it while transferring your weight to your back foot.

As for your first eagle, good for you! As for no one believing you, as long as you know you got an honest eagle, don't worry about it. Their opinion doesn't count on your scorecard.

On to my personal comments. Ricky, go see a teaching professional IN PERSON. There is only so much you can learn over the internet. You have been asking the same questions for a few months now and no matter how many answers you get, you keep asking the same question. It's good that you are asking questions and want to get better, but sometimes only a 1-on-1 session where someone can walk you through the steps can solve the problem.

                    Re: no hooks this summer

The "strong draw" is caused by a poor weight transfer because the reverse C means there is too much weight on your right side and the right shoulder and hip have not 'crossed over'.

That will itself cause the hands to over-roll because they have no other way of clearing but to get out of the way and go left themselves without help from the body.

If you sort the weight transfer out, the club face angle will correct itself.
