My local course Par SSS = 71: 6322 yards

    4 x par3: 3 x par5

My good self has a handicap of 12.6 Gross score of 76
11 out of 14 fairways hit and 8 out of 18 greens in regulation

I had to hit 15, 4 wood to 8 iron shots and 16 chips (par3 Inc)

With 30 putts for the full round

Best shot was a 7 wood from 170 yards stopped dead 3 inches from pin

Good round ? my fairay irons were c p, kept drawing them 20 yards and when I tried to correct I pushed 15 yards and lost 20 yards distance
HELP turn a good round into a great one please.

No problem. Put a controller in my hand, and I'll have you shooting 52 in no time.

Seriously, though, did you make your PB? Were you close?

5 over par seems like a great round for a 16 HCP.

Well, I can see where your problem is immediately. If you hit 8 greens, that means you missed 10 of them. You shouldn't have had 16 chips when you missed 10 greens - thats at least 4 too much. To play low handicap golf you have to "get and down" at least 60% of the time.

Having missed 10 greens, you should have about 28 or 29 putts.

So, work on the short game and I guarantee you'll shave 5 or 6 shots off your average score.

You mean up and down, right?

Um, yeah ... that what I (almost) said!

Thanks! I'm a pro golfer not a typist.

It was my second best round and seen as it was winter I was pretty much happy about it. My short game seemed ok (the 16 chips included 8 iron and up over) actual shots 100 yards in over was probably around 11 mark).
My 4 up to 8 irons kept drawing / hooking think i have a problem as a lot of up and downs were from left side of green. Trying to correct it left my club face open and I pushed right and short. Have a feeling its my hands as I seem to fidget with my grip with long irons. Any ideas to stop it?
Lowpost best not ridicule teaching pro for his typing you cant read, my handicap is 12.6 lol

              That's ok. I'm a typist, not a pro golfer.

Well done, to get to your second best score in winter quite an achievement.

Ah, well if you missed 10 greens and you took 16 shots to get the ball on the green from 100 yards out then you're right on the money! Absolutely great. I'm sorry when you said "chips" I thought that meant greenside shots ... sorry 'bout that.

Your next scoring barrier is to hit 10 or 11 greens and after that 14 greens and that should get you to par or better.

Fidgiting is something we all do when something doesn't feel right. You do it, I do it and I've even seen Ernie and Vijay do it. Tiger and Sergio are the best examples ... you watch and when they are striking the ball very well they fidget with the grip.

There is no sure-fire way of stopping other than to build your stance without gripping the club. Then grip the club, check your alignment, look at the target and then GO. There's no other way to break the habit but to work through it.

Second game in two days. Yeah the weather has improved and so is my golf. Came in with a 74 joint best effort, 12 out of 14 fairways and 12 greens in reg. Although I was disapointd at 32 putts, greens have just been spiked and they were difficult to say the least. The improvement came due to hitting all par 3 from tee.
