Re: Weak and no power shots

It sounds like you are hitting it off the toe. You may be addressing the ball with your hands held too high and cutting across the ball slightly. Hold your hands a little lower at address and make sure you complete your turn away from the ball. If in doubt about a swing fault always fall back on 3 checkpoints.

Position of the hands - height and position in reference to the ball (ahead of them)
Complete your backswing - a lot of faults stem from players cutting their swings short at the top and losing timing.
Slow down your swing - everyone gets quick and some players suffer badly when they do (me included) check your swing speed and slow it down a bit.

I agree with the last part of the post..........it is all in your speed and mind....if you think about how you dont wand to play a shot rather than how you want to play it........you play it like you dont want to.

Re: Weak and no power shots

I wonder if the weather can having anything to do with the lack of distance. In Toronto, it is a little cold and damp, and when compared to the hot days of summer, the ball simply does not go as far. I think the cold air has more mass to it, and is harder for the ball to penetrate.

          Richie-Richie-Richie......

You know what the problem is?.........

You are no worse than you were on Sunday playing to your H/capp...just a different mind set.

Let me guess.......First tee shot didn't feel great, but hey first shot of the day. You get to your ball bit of a ****py lie....hit the shot, ball goes high not your usual shot....come off with a bogie or double.
Second tee...that funny tee shot again....still thinking about last hole with the high 9 iron...never mind. Get down to the ball another ****py lie...hmm I lift and place...then a really bad shot off a perfect lie. I know what your thinking my swings gone wrong..i know I have a fiddle with it and bang the round goes from bad to worse.

I might be wrong.........but this type of thing happens to loads of golfers me included..tour pros included.

You need to learn to put a round together when your ball striking is a bit out of tune.....never look at your swing during a round, play with the one you have bought with you on that day, try humming to yourself when you are addressing and hitting the ball, don't let the little man talk you into thinking there is something wrong with your swing. Try thinking about the weather, wind direction, pin position, were you want to land the ball.....anything but swing.

You must remember peoples swing don't fall apart from one day to the next, it people that fall apart one day to the next.

Hope this helps and don't panic you probably play great at the weekend.

          Ian.

Re: Weak and no power shots

Heres a suggestion, Ricky. Dont worry about your long game just now. Use the opportunity to sharpen the putting and chipping. Then go to your coaching bit and let them look at it. When I start hitting the ball dreadful I sit back and stop beating balls in the hope it will go away. Work on the short stuff for a couple of hours then go home. Then do the same the next day but after the putting go and swing a club nice and easy to loosen off and then hit a few balls. If theres no improvement (and Im betting there will be a bit) just be patient and wait until you can get a pro to run the rule over it.

Stay relaxed, you have lots of time to fix it, I think this might be a result of tension because its the start of the season. Just chill out and take Walter Hagen's advice 'Stop and smell the flowers along the way'.

Just keep your head up and when your swing is up..show it. The more you think you will tear the course up... the more you will....like today.....i had serious putting problems but i tore the course up with everything but some short less than 3/4 wedge shots.
