Should You Rotate Your Hands Through Impact

  • #2
    Re: Impact Question

    Yes.

You should hold your right wrist in a cupped position (see GregJWillis's right hand drill and impact position drill)

After impact, do NOT flip your wrists but roll your right wrist over your left wrist as you continue the follow through.

Yes! Rotate your wrists. See my drill about this.

It depends ... your hands should be square at impact and rotate after that. The toe of the club should be pointed skyward when the club is parallel to the ground on the thru swing.

Do the movement from square at impact thru to this position ...
        Does that help you?

          Re: Impact Question

I totally agree with TeachingPro about the hands having to be square at impact and rotate to a closed position after that. Perhaps my response was a bit short, I just wanted to stress the role of the hands rotating during the swing. Many people, especially beginners in golf, do not rotate the hands sufficiently and hit the ball with an open clubface. I'm not quite sure what is meant by the clubface having to 'point to the sky' when the club is horizontal. I think that the shaft should be parallel to the swing plane at that position (ie the butt of the grip would point to a line extending backwards from the ball) and that would mean that the clubface would not be quite vertical. Should anyone disagree with this, I would appreciate to hear from you.
