  • driving confusion

this has happened twice. it seems what i see on tv and how i feel may be two different thangs. when i watch the tour players drive it appears their arms hang down straight and the driver angles out. twice now i have gone to one of those golf shops and look at buying a driver and during the test and with the aid of the pro they have me do some totally different. each time, after several swings they suggest i step back from the ball so i wont be so cramped during my swing. i feel as if i am on my toes, and my arms are stretched out even with the club instead of what i see on tv. it doesnt take me long to fall back into the other routine which leaves slice the ball and i have to aim 30 degrees to the left to keep the ball on the fair way. any ideas? should i continue with this instruction of straighter arms or is this instructions for beginners till the get more experiance?
    thanks

    Re: driving confusion

Make sure your arms are hanging loosely from your shoulders with your knees slightly bent. Bend from the waist, not with your back and don't listen to advice unless you have asked for advice....

      Paterick,

The problem is if you sit back on your heels when swinging or bend from the back then you will be further from the ball at you normal set up.

So when you arms hang down as they should which you have seen on TV, you will feel like you are miles from the ball in your mind anyway.

Like Gord says start with the correct set-up and stance with some medium irons first, bend from the hips and let the arms hand down, do this until you get used to the new feeling of having your weight on the balls of your feet then try the driver later.

      Hope this helps

      Ian.
