It's very scientific but in extreme cases like Brady's, it's a good place to start. It can be very puzzling why a given swing speed doesn't generate the distance. The answer lies in calculating the energy generated and energy transfered.

The software we use in these cases is seriously cool!

I can even work out if you swing the golf club and maintain 1* degree extra wrist cock, what difference it would make to swing speed at impact; or if you wanted another 10 yards by how much would you have to increase your swing arc.
I want to build a set of irons custom built for me and Thought I had decided on club heads, but am having second thoughts. I am about a 25 haandicapper and think I want clubs like the Taylor Made RAC ST 2s. Which components would I order from say Dynacraft (I understand they sponsored you) or Golf Smith? There are about 9 million heads. Also, would you recommed paying 40.00 for a swing analysis?

      Re: Lack of distance

Yeah I agree, it's terrible having to look at the equipment on the market and make a decision on what to go with. I've just gone through it myself (again).

I'd suggest the Dynacraft HC Control irons or HC Tour irons both with hybrid long irons. Lots of golfers wanna vommit when I say hybrids and they are panzy etc. etc.

But: <1> what single club won Todd Hamilton the Open? His hybrid ... correct? <2> After testing them on the swing computer or on the lesson tee, most golfers are convinced it's the way to go.

I used Dynacraft irons for 2 years - I used the Tour Set that I customised to some extent.

BTW: I have replaced my 4 & 5 irons (I don't have a 3-iron) with hybrids and I haven't missed a target with either of them yet. The rest of my irons are 2005 model Hogan blades.

        Re: Lack of distance

I found this website, which requires some info (not personal).

        http://www.csgnetwork.com/golfclubdistancecalce.html

I found that it was pretty close to what I had determined on my own.

I always find it more important to know how far each club will go, rather than if it is long enough.

        Hope this helps.

I hit my 5 iron approx. 145 yards when I hit it well. On par 3's when others are hitting a 9 iron i hit a 6 or 7. My driver just stinks, I can't get any kind of distance at all. Even when I hit it solid and straight it might go 200 yards, but probably 170-180 on average. Any advice?
Your problems mirror mine to the tee. Have you discovered any of the flaws since you started this post? I am thinking part of mine is a collapse of the left arm, and straighting the right to early on the downswing. But-------

            Re: Lack of distance

One thing I have done that has helped is to make a bigger turn on the back swing with my upper body. The main way I've accomplished this is to lift the left heel off the ground and actually break the left knee inward a little. It's given me a bigger turn and more power consistently. I've gone from about 180 yards average off the tee to about 230 quite consistently. My irons have also improved.

What an improvement!! That is great. When I do not go brain dead over the ball, and remember to take a full turn, I too hit it better. My goal is to once again hit a 7 iron 150 yards consistently.

                3. point of impact (where the ball is being struck)
                4. the weight of the clubs
                5. the length of the clubs
                6. your arm length

From there I'd have a pretty good idea.

I'm like you: S-N-E-A-K-Y SHORT!! I also only drive it 250/260yards with my Launcher 460. Nice thing is I know why - my clubhead speed is only 90mph on average.
If I ever went to play on tour again - I'd work on getting it to 105mph at least. With my swing and energy transfer, that will knock the distance up to 285yds.

                Teaching pro,
My swing analysis with 5 iron says
                1. Speed 75
                2. ball speed ?
                3. ball struck very slight toward hill with about a 3 degree closed face , slight in out path.
                4.Dynacraft HC 5 iron: weight 256 grams
                5. Length standard
                6. arm length: NOT SURE i UNDERSTAND, BUT FROM SHOULDER TO FINGER TIP IS 30 iNCHES. WRIST TO FLOOR IS 36 INCHES.

How far should I be hitting it, and what is correlation of swing speed with 5 iron to swing speed and distance with driver.

                Signed;

Sneaky Short - but geting longer.

                  Re: Lack of distance

For anyone who is keeping up, I just wanted to let everyone know that after 3 years of trying I played this weekend and had 2 drives of 270 yards and 2 of 260 yards, and the rest were consistently over 240-250. It felt so great after all this time of hitting 180 yard drives.

For the record, I concentrate on 4 things that I failed to do before. First... relax, loose arms at address, don't tense up. Second, good posture at address, back straight and rear end sticking out. Third, I'm keeping my right elbow closer to my body on the back swing instead of letting it fly out or up in order to come more from the inside out instead of vice versa... that's helped tremendously with my slice. And last, I'm making more of a turn on my back swing. I actually lift my left heel and break the left knee inward a bit to allow more of an upper body turn on the back swing. The last thing that I still forget once every few holes... and it shows in the results... is to swing easy and in control. When I forget that, and TRY to hit the ball hard, it almost always goes any direction but straight. I CAN'T WAIT TO GO OUT AND PLAY AGAIN!

                    Re: Lack of distance

Congrats Brady! It's so nice to hear such good news I also had the same problems as you. A big problem of mine which I only manage to correct last night was a "death grip"! I couldn't believe how much I have been torturing my hands and body all this while, until I tried a really soft and relaxed grip last night, and the swing and ball just got in order from there! My 7 iron has gone immediately from like 70yds to 100yds! I know it's still pathetic, but I'm hopeful because now I can start working on the other parts like a fuller swing, bigger twist, faster swing speed etc! Exciting!
