  • WHY! Does my ball go RIGHT??

    Can anyone HELP?

Ive been working on my swing and set-up a lot, and have even a few lesson's with a PRO, and he was happy with my set-up and positioning.
I've spent a fair few hours and the driving range and am now a lot more consistant with making good contact and hitting the ball straight.

The problem is, although the flight is straight, my shots 7/10 times end up 20 yards right of where i was aiming.
What can this be if it is not my allinment???

    Any help would be great!!!!

I have this problem sometimes and I find its when my body turn out paces my arm swing, usually if i`m trying too hit it too hard. The key for me is to slow down the body turn and feel more like I swing my arms down first.

If your alignment is fine it could be another fundamental error.

Did he check your grip? the V'S formed by your thumb and forfinger should point between your right side of your chin and your right shoulder.

Another cause for this is spinning your hips out.(your lower body is outracing your upper body) this drops the club too far inside and you will swing inside to outside.

Feel your arms drop down and then accelerate your lower body this will improve synchronization between the upper and lower body.

Your left hand and arm may be too firm. When there is tension here, it inhibits the release. This is most likely the cause.

Drill: take a tube of toothpaste now hold on firm enough to have a secure grip on the tube without squeexing the toothpaste out. This might also help, first grip the club now strangle it with your hands, call this a 10. Now hold onto the grip as light as possible call this a 1. You have now felt the difference in grip pressure, you will want to feel a four or five right in between both super tight and super light.

      Try working on these

Re: WHY! Does my ball go RIGHT??

Clearly your pro has missed a very important element of the golf swing. A golf swing is a motion and other than at address, none of the 'positions' needed to execute an effective and efficient golf shot are static.

Let me explain something to you, it's very important and it's an element very few teaching pros tell their students. There are 2 alignments: one at address and one at impact. Both are important but the most important one is the impact alignment (i.e. where is everything at impact) - that is what causes the ball to move, not the address alignment. Too much happens after address for that to be the focus of attention.

Your address alignment will determine your backswing and the downswing will determine your impact alignment. Fairly straight forward. Yes? Think about it ... If you want me to elaborate, let me know.

If your address alignment is fine (as per your pro) but your ball flight is still to the right, then clearly something is not right with your impact alignment. I always check it using a video and CSwing, almost every lesson I teach I check impact alignment. Once I pick the error at impact alignment, it's firaly easy to track the error back to something in your downswing ...

A left to right ball flight can be:
1> A push, straight right: in which case your club face is square to the swing path but your swing path is too far inside.
2> A fade, straight at first with a slight 'fall' to the right: your club face and swing path a square-ish but a variance in either is causing a slight side spin onto the ball.
3> A slice, the ball starts left and cuts accross to the right: your club face is open and swing path is outside-inside
4> A push slice, where the ball starts right and the goes further right: your club face is open and the club attacks the ball from too far inside the target line.

Depending on which ball flight best describes yours, we can help you from there. If you are not sure how to correct the errors that cause the ball flight.

BUT: MY POINT IS - ADDRESS ALIGNMENT HAS VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH BALL FLIGHT - IMPACT ALIGNMENT DICTATES BALL FLIGHT.

You may well find that your impact alignment can be fixed by altering your address alignment, sure ... but you have to know your impact alignment first.
