i have just bought new clubs( custom fitted ) and my scores have gone sky rocketing. i cannot judge distance with my short irons, although i seem to hit my longs irons ok. my driver and f/wood are causing me big problems, slicing bad with driver and topping with f/wood. ok. clubs are mixed. all irons are nickent gh+ , with prostaff 75 gold series reg flex graphite shafts. driver is 10.5 nicklaus 360 power max with prostaff 75 reg flex graphite shaft, f/wood is nicklaus 16.5 with fujikura reg flex graphite shaft anf rescue wood by nicklaus 18 deg. with fuji gaf reg flex shaft. my swing speed is 92mph with driver and about 87mph for the rest of clubs.... will it or should it take a while to adjust to custom fitted clubs as my old ones were $100 specials from the garage sale down the road. i have gone from shooting 98 on par 72 to 116 in just 2 games. not sure on how new clubs affect swing control / distance control and mental control. any help will be much appreciated. cheers wez

Re: my game has gone backwards with new clubs
Andrew is correct,
You need to hit a few and get used to the new clubs, it's playing on your mind and upsetting the rest of your game.

Re: my game has gone backwards with new clubs
Time to relearn your distances, as has been said above. New sticks often mean new lofts, new lengths, and new weight. You're not used to them.
My brother in law outfitted himself with a new Ping G2 bag this year - and spent 4-6 weeks getting used to the new clubs. He started out 2 clubs shorter than where he was, but he's now back to his regular distance.

Re: my game has gone backwards with new clubs
I went from using Adams to TaylorMade, and initially I cried because I thought I had wasted 500 bucks. However, it took a little while to get used to them and I am not hitting a 7 iron 150 yards instead of a 5 iron!

Re: my game has gone backwards with new clubs
I went from B51's to king cobra's, stuck with them for 18 months as they were going so much further .But never really got used to them and definately wasn't as accurate with them. Thankfully never got rid of the B51's so now the cobra's sit in the cupboard. Waste of money? sure was, the cobras added around 5 shots to my score per round.
Anyone want to buy a good set of cobra irons

Re: my game has gone backwards with new clubs
LOL wow the first post that I think I can offer some advice.
I too just went from clones to the Ping G2 irons and TaylorMade drivers. I used to be able to pound the balls with the clones. My furthest ever was 200 yards with a 9 iron (fluke I think). Then with the G2's a 9 iron, I had difficulty getting it to 100 yards.
Here's what I suspect was going on.
1- Paid a pretty penny for the clubs and was babying them.
2- Not used to the feel, they were way lighter then the clones.
3- Not used enough to accurately judge what club to use.
I went from 120's down to 100's and went out about 6 times this year. The bad thing is new clubs take some time to get used to.
GOOD LUCK

Your local clubmaker can get your new clubs to 'feel' the same as your old clubs (ie add some weight).
All new clubs take some getting used to.
