  • Drill for takeaway

I am looking for a drill or to to practive my takeaway. I understand the position I need to get into and can get into the correct position when breaking the swing down, however, as soon as I try to put the whole swing together i feel myself returning back to my 'normal' swing.

The issue I have with the takeaway is that i take the clubhead back behind me too much, therefore the clubhead is outside my hands.

Are there any drills that may help or feelings in the swing that I am looking for?

Stand in the back of a bench, and rest your shaft mid way down on the top of the bench. Take the club back with only the shoulder rotation. The shaft will slide down the back and should stay connected the whole way...if your shaft gets outside, you will hear no sliding sound. If your shaft tries to go inside, you will feel increased tension. The idea is to keep the pressure constant and the sound of the shaft sliding all the way back. Stop when your hands get waist high. From there, you would set your wrists and lift your arms. Do this back and forth - engraining the shoulders rotating the club back and forth only without the hands.

(If no bench is available, have a partner stand behind you with a driver in that same mid shaft position. Just do the same thing but do not set and lift the hands and arms, your partner might need a doctor)
