  • Arm rotation on the downswing?

When I get myself in what LOOKS like a good position at the top (clubface square, short of parallel, etc), it feels almost impossible to square the clubface on the way down... There is some arm rotation on the backswing (if not then I get a severely shut clubface at the top), but I'm not sure what to do on the downswing. If there is forearm rotation on the backswing, shouldn't there be some to couteract this on the downswing?? With this 'good looking' position at the top, I cannot take a divot. However, if I take it back shut, I make clean, powerful contact and can take a divot. Help please!!

    Hi leftygolfer,

I'm a beginner myself, with only 5 lessons and about 5 practice sessions under my belt :P I'm wondering the same thing too.. The logical thing is to reverse the rotation on the downswing from that of the upswing, what do you think?

      Hi Lefty,

From address look at the face and follow it to the 9 o clock position, the toe should now be pointing to the sky.

This is the arm rotation for the left arm (right handed golfer) then the bend from the wrist on the right hand does the rest. (see Gregs right hand drill)

      Hope this Helps

      Ian.

P.S Simon you learn very fast, it's all about opposites..........
