  • crushing ball

hi since ive been playing golf it seems ive always been a swater, i play of 28 and played a round with a friend who plays of 13, watching him hit the ball and taking a divot amazed me, he hit his 9 8 7 6 so sweet and the divot followed. he told me i should try and crsuh the ball into the ground, after about 6 sessions ive started doing it, and it feels so strange, at impact it feels like my club is very close to my body, is this the right feeling, have i been doing it wrong for the last 2 years and is this the right way to do it?

    Re: crushing ball

I don't know about crushing the ball into the ground but you should be down on your iron shots. The idea is to squeeze the ball between the club face and the ground.

Your hands should get to the ball before the club head- this practically gaurantees you'll be hitting down on the ball. My advice would be to forget about the clubhead when you swing,( if your hands are in the correct place there's a good chance the club face will be too) but think about returning the hands to the ball first. It may help you to look at Greg's "right hand drill" on this site.
