  • Ball position - Heavenwood

    Greetings

Was playing with a Callaway heavenwood last night and really liked it (23 deg. version). One question though. Where to position the ball in the stance when playing a hybrid? Like an iron, a fairwaywood or in between? Any opinions?

    Regards

    Jens

Play it where you'd play your 4 iron.

There are two theorys as to where you should place the ball in relation to your STERNUM (NOT YOUR FEET) You should play the driver, woods, and long irons forward of your sternum off of your shirt logo or left armpit. you move the ball back in half inch increments for each club. The wedge is played center of sternum. This is one theory.

The second theory is the ball should be placed off of your shirt logo or left armpit, which is forward of your sternum. It is beneficial to do play the ball forward of your sternum if you are trying to acheive a higher ball flight.

To answer your question regarding the ball position for a heavenwood is off of your shirt logo. With fairway woods you are sweeping the ball of the ground. Therefor you place it further forward in your stance, if you desire a steeper angle of attack place the ball further back in your stance.

Seriously, how many golfers, outside pros (they probably cannot), are precise enough to adjust ball position by 1/2 inch increments? Plat irons in middle of stance, widen stance as clubs get longer, and play woods left of center.
