  • Downswing - arms go too much around body

    Hi all,

I'm a newbie here and must say like many before me have, what a great site !

    Now my problem :

My take-away seems fine, club head stays outside of hands ( no wrist roll ) and at 9'oclock the club is parallel to target line and toe is aligned with spine angle. Now from here, I seem to keep letting my arms go 'around' my chest as my shoulders rotate, should I not be moving my arms up as my shoulders rotate ? I also seem to have a problem of not keeping the flex in my right leg which makes my spine angle straighten a little on the backswing.

I do have a video of my swing of which I've uploaded in a zip file, it shows me from behind with a 5-iron, I did do the swing slower so my camera could pick up more frames.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Steve

    Hi Steg.

My answer is: it depends - do you want to carry on with your one plane swing, or do you want to learn a two plane swing?

It sounds like you're employing a one plane swing - the arms move around the body, the club looks laid off at the top, and the hands seem low.

In a one plane swing, though, it's all good, as everything comes back down just fine. In the one plane swing, your arms do go around your body.

Re: Downswing - arms go too much around body

      Thanks LowPost42,

I believe my swing not to be a 1PS - my arms appear to be on a different plane at the top of my swing than my shoulder plane, well, I think they do ?!

I'm trying to take the club away in one piece with no hand manipulation, I have in the past been very handsy, rolling the wrists on the take-away and thus fanning the club face open and obviously coming too much on the inside on the backswing. Does my take-away look ok, or is it still incorrect ?

      Many thanks,
      Steve

Steve - please try uploading the video in it's un-zipped state.

I can't attach a .avi file ? Has to be a certain type of file when attaching, hence a zip file.

Do I need to upload another way ?

          Kind regards,
          Steve

Green screen may be a lack of DIVX codecs?
