  • Why is this happening?

I had been slicing my driver a bit but yesterday at the range I tried something new and now my ball is straight and long. Can someone explain to me why this is happening, btw I am a righthanded golfing.

My old setup was both feet were lined up the same in terms of distance from the ball (assuming a two parallel lines). Now my left foot (front foot) is roughly 5 inch back, I'm not shifting my foot to sideways but actually back so farther from the ball. So if I place a club on the ground only my right foot will be touching the club.

I hope who ever reads this understands.

    Thanks

    Hi Silver,

You are now setting up with a closed stance which will help counteract your outside in swing, by pulling the back foot "back" you reduce the amount you are swinging outside the plane.

Although this will help short term you will no doubt suffer other problems long term in your game, also it is usual to swing better at the range due to the lack of pressure and also better alignement due to the mats.

I suggest you work on your swing plane with a normal stance.

Have a look at this picture to help work on your swing plane.

      Ian,

Thanks for the response. I am actually doing better on the course and not at the range. I just figured out this way of hitting my driver at the range. I am currently taking lessons and working on the inside out approach. My irons are fine but I struggle with my 3 wood and my heavenwood ( 3H callaway). I will discuss this topic with my instructor later this week. I don't really want to change it since I have never felt this good about my driver in a very long time. I'll see how it goes. thanks again
