  • Holding Ball Low In High Winds

    Hi There Guys

I would like to know how to play a lower trajectory shot into high winds if anyone can tell me how to go about doing this.

I was playing in high winds at my local this afternoon and i had a lot of trouble keeping the trajectory low.

I have been told to keep the ball back in my stance and choke down on the club and put my weight onto my left side. I don't know if this is true, but would like people to let me know the real way to keep the ball lower in headwinds.

    Cheers Guys

    Hi Alan,

I wouldn't worry about trying changing your weight distribution - keep it as normal. What you will want to do is ensure your clubface is closed a bit on alignment when you place your ball further back in your stance. You will have to play with how much your clubface needs to be closed to get the ball headed straight. Placing the ball further back in your stance and closing the clubface de-lofts your club, creating a much lower ball flight. Choking up on the club by approx 1 inch is so you are not taking divots that are large enough to plant a tree in. One other thing to mention is you may want to abbreviate your follow through or finish with your club head low so that you are playing a bit of a draw, delofting the clubface even more.
