    Re: driver

It seems to me that any swing sequence at golfdigest.com has the pro swinging driver.

That said, try a couple things.

    1) Choke up an inch. Chances are you're playing a 45" driver. Even the pros (who are interested in all the distance they can get) don't play drivers more than ~ 44"

    2) Swing easy. Don't try and kill the ball. Yes, you'll lose some yardage (because your clubhead speed may be slower), but you'll probably have more sweet-spot hits, because you're more in control, and less prone to overswinging.

To wit - I was playing in a 4 man scramble, and on one hole, (after having a so-so time with my driver) just decided to get up, take a 'ho hum' swing with the driver and take what it gave me. What it gave me was a drive that was dead straight, and about 30 yards shorter than my 'quick rip'.

      Re: driver

Please get me wrong, everyone has talent and skill, but I always recommend that players with a high handicap stay away from the driver. I bet you'll get better results from hitting a 3-wood.

You need to acquire the skills through a good golf coach before you even think of using a driver. Referring to a website or watching a video is not what you need you need a lesson from a teaching professional.

Please, don't take it personally, but its my honest opinion because I see it so often.

        Re: driver

To back up Graham, I just finished the most Jekyll and Hyde round of my life.

I couldn't hit my driver worth beans on the front 9 (leaving it out right), and spent 9 holes trying to 'show it who was boss'.

On the back 9, I left the big dog in the bag, and hit irons off the tee. I scored 7 strokes better on the back. (It's easier hitting longer irons from the fairway than shorter irons from the rough - good 6" rough.)

            Re: driver

The thing that's different is that a lot of people try to sweep the ball with the driver (ie take no divot), while you're trying to pinch the ball off the turf with an iron (and take a divot after the ball).

The 'driver swing' then is more flat than a steeper 'iron swing'.

              Re: driver

A dRIVER SWING IS MORE ROUNDED THAN AN IRON SWING IE ON A CLOCK IT WOULD GO FROM 2 TO 8 RATHER THAN AN IRON THAT SHOULD GO AT AROUND 12 TO 6
