Look at the ball in it's setup position for as long as you can. That will prevent you from moving your head up too early, and also you will be able to see much better how you are hitting the ball with every stroke.

Maybe you should move the ball. If you are topping the ball on the downswing, move the ball forward and vice versa.

Swing the club without a ball and find where you typically first start to brush the ground. That is a good starting point for where to place the ball. Topping it could be caused by playing too far forward or back. Dont make the mistake of playing the ball at the low point of your swing though, you want to hit down on it, trying to make sure you are hitting the equator of the ball with the lower 1/2 of the clubface from my understanding of this game.

Also, on the lifting the head thing... lifting your head is a generic term applied to one of 2 swing flaws.... chances are you are either standing straighter as you swing down ( i.e. changing spine to hip angle from address ) or you are straightening your front leg/lifting your hip trying to "get the ball up". Either of these can also cause topping even if the ball is positioned correctly.

My suggestion would be, find where the ball is played by swinging without a ball, then put a ball there and swing at what you feel is 50% power. Chances are if you are not trying to power it you will hit it better. Then, slowly increase swing speed. Anytime you start losing your crisp hit, back off the swing speed a bit until contact is proper again, then increase again. I find this helps me get to where I can really swing at the ball without jumping all over the place with effort. Just my 2 cents though, one of the pros will probably have better ideas

Moving The Hips Laterally On The Downswing Instead Of Rotating The Hips Will Shift The Bottom Of Your Swing Forward And You'll Hit Down On Top Of The Ball. Also Try Keeping Your Head In The Same Position On Your Downswing. Dont Let It Move Forward Toward The Target Till After Impact
