  • serious flaws after best score ever

I recently just started playing horribly. I have only been playing for about a year and a half and I shot my first 78 about 2 months ago. Well for some reason ever since then I have been going downhill. One really bad thing is that I hit my 4 iron as high as a pitching wedge, and no I am not joking. I hit my 3 iron now about 170 yards and that is it. Drives are horrible, high as can be and go no where. I used to crush drives and hit my pitching wedge 120, now if I hit a bad drive it is gonna be only at best a bogey for that hole because I cannot reach the green in 2. I dont understand what I could be doing wrong, anybody have any ideas or advice??? Please help....... haha

Ballooning shots is typically a result of a bad weight transfer. It sounds like you are falling away fromt he target at impact. As you fall away, your clubface opens, adding more loft to your club. Also, since you are falling away from the target, the clubhead will not be travelling as fast through impact as well as your body's mass will not be travelling through the impact zone.

Practice taking light swings with your feet together and then work up to about a 3/4 swing. This will help you understand where your weight is being forced during your swing and it will also help correct the incorrect weight transfer.

Start working with your feet together, as you develop a more consistent swing, spread them out to normal length gradually.
