But if you move the ball back in your stance you also have to lower it.
When you hit an iron off the tee you are sitll hitting it with a descending blow, lower irons are hit on the upstroke to promote a high ball flight with the lower loft.
Actually you are driving the ball into the ground, but the path of least resistance for the ball is to roll up the clubface and into the air, the roll causes backspin which in turn helps the ball into the air and to stay there.
Actually you are trying to hit the equator of the ball every time, anything else loser forward momentum.
At this point I think we are not helping the OP so I will bow out.
