    Hi Guys

What does it mean to release?

What's the difference between an early release and late release?

    Re: Releasing

Releaseing the position of the hands and wrists from their fully set position at the top, to their impact position. Early releases are when you fire the hands and wrists from the top first. This is only good if you want to purposfully cut the shot. Usually a mistake that ends up in a high short slice, causes by an outside-in path and usually an open face angle. Late releases are better but only if you are able to be flexable enough to allow the hands and wrists to fully release before impact. This creates the most acceleration, and usually a steep angle of attack putting the most spin and hight on the ball. Great for irons, bad for the driver. If you are not careful and allow the hands to get over zealous, late releases cause all sorts of errors...hooks and slices (all depending on what your body did for that swing. It takes both a timed body rotation to its full position, shoulder rotation, and hand/wrist release to produce a good shot.

What should be the difference between the release using irons, hybrids, woods and the driver?

The woods do not get the release as aggressivly as an iron would. The woods want it to be smooth, while still fully releasing to impact. The main point about the woods is to make the full, aggressive rotation of the hips and shoulders through the shot.
