  • Left foot at the end of swing

    Hi,

At address I generally keep my left foot slightly open (30 degrees or so). During my downswing I try to clear my hips by moving them slightly towards the target and then rotating. At the end of the swing my chest is facing the target. All that seems fine BUT I have also noticed that in order to ensure that I don't lose my balance at the end of my swing, I am forced to open my left foot a bit more. To quantify it, I would say my left foot at the end of the swing needs to be opene around 60 degrees otherwise I find it difficult to remain stable.

Does anyone else notice this with their left foot too? Is this something that should be of concern or am I splitting hairs here?

    Cheers

If you have to turn the foot out that far, you are probably sliding too much. You should be able to lock the left leg and balance on it just fine on the followthrough. Male sure your left knee is locked straight and I bet you won't need to turn the foot out that far...30 degrees is enough.

      Greg,

Thanks for the advise. Just for clarification when you say "sliding too much" are you refering to the initial hip movement towards the target or the opening of the hips to make the belly face the target? I have a feeling that it might be excess of the latter that makes me force open my left foot to maintain balance. But then excess lateral hip slide towards the target could also cause imbalance?

      cheers

Slide as in lateral hip movement towards the target.
