  • Torque and resistance

I ran into a drill that discussed the resistance of the lower body and the upper body creating torque. The drill was basically the clubshaft behind the shoulders to work on the turn except doing it while seated with your feet flat on the floor. Any Opinions regarding this, and now that I know how this feels should I try to incorporate it into my swing? It makes me feel like I could really spank the ball with less effort.

I'm not sure how that seated drill works, but if you haven't done so yet, I recommend you check out Greg Willis's "impact drill", which you can get to via the "staff" menu item on this site.

      Re: Torque and resistance

I think it's a great stretch for the one plane swing, and a good one for the two plane swing.

The reason I don't like it as much for the two plane swing is that it really gets the shoulders turning around the spine, keeping the arms on the same plane. In the two plane swing, the arms move on a different plane. I'm not sure how you could augment this drill to simulate the 'up and down' motion of the arms to go with the 'around' motion of the body.

But it still is a good drill for creating torque, and learning to turn the shoulders independent of the hips.
