  • The 7 Wood

As a begginner, I'm tryng to figure out just when is the best time (or place) to use my 7 wood on the golf course? Although I have been told to use it to get out of the rough, it seems extremly difficult to do so. Any advice out there on this issue...

    Re: The 7 Wood

These kind of woods were made for people who struggle with their longer irons (5 iron onwards) as they are usually easier to hit since they have more loft and will still have the distance since they are longer. And because it is a wood, it prevents you from taking big chunks out of ground.

Essentially, you can use them on the fairways, rough, bunkers....anywhere really. Anytime you want the ball to fly higher, use a 7 wood.

When people say it is "easier" to hit in from the rough, they dont mean heavy rough where the ball is deep. In these cases, there is nothing you can do but hack out with a short iron.

It is easier when the rough is not heavy and that you still want to get distance out of your shot. The loft on the club allows the ball to come out higher and at the same time your club wont get tangled up in the rough like and iron would.

Hopes this help you understand what a 7 wood is for. I used to have it when I was younger when I werent so good and couldnt get as much distance with my longer irons. I am now more of an iron player (I take both 1I and 2I) and have no room to fit a 7 wood in there but they are definitely very handy.
