Wear on my grips

Here's one that I haven't seen: On my irons, I have golf pride tour velvets, and on my driver and hybrid I have Winn V-17's. The Golf Prides can't really wear, but...

On the Winns I have developed two very distinctive wear spots - one where my right thumb sits on the grip (the left side), and one where the "trigger", ie pointer, finger sits. The wear is pretty bad, too. I just had these grips put on at the beginning of the year and they need to be replaced. There's no other wear spots.

What the wear spots indicate to me is that the club is not secure in my hands through the swing - that it's sliding around. How else could those wear spots develop?

Has anyone seen this before? I have determined prior to this that the club is not secure to the pad of my left hand at the top of my backswing, which I've been working on. Is this just a manifestation of that?

Either way, I don't think it does much for my ballstriking to have the club seemingly moving so much. Any help would be appreciated....

It's not you, it's the grips.

The v17's are a very soft compound - this makes them wear out faster than a more rubberlike compound.

The Tour Velvets are a popular choice because they just don't wear out very fast. Rubber grips show chewing pretty well (and feel horrible, IMO).

I've tried some Dual Durometers, and have had the same phenomenon - what seemed to be 'premature' wear, but was in actuality just the grip getting worn.

This is the reason that I tend to install my own grips. For the same money as going to a local shop, I can use a higher end grip and install it myself.

So it's the grip... That makes sense. The Golf Pride's are definitely tackier.

I was really wondering, because I consider myself to have a very good grip. Guess I'll have to throw GP's on those clubs, too.
