Re: Jumping the bandwagon and going one-plane...
I'm using the 1PS and also have found this tendency. You're supposed to stand further away from the ball with a 1PS in comparison to a 2PS but if I stand too far away I tend to hit it off the toe and therefore a bit weak.
I also find that I sometimes lose my balance and fall forward (not towards the hole but forwards from the direction your body faces at address) if I'm reaching too far and I think that has caused me a sudden loss of distance today but before today I usually hit some of my best shots when I'd had too much weight on my toes and fell forward on the follow-through.
The thing is, I played a par 3 course today (not pitch n putt there's 207 yard holes) and was hitting the ball as straight as a pro but didn't finish in balance once and all my shots were 10-15 yards shorter than normal. Was frustrating coz I was like 2 yards short of the green but directly on line several times. I did get a birdie today though after hitting it 18 inches short of the hole with a 6I.
I find though if I stand closer I hit the odd shank, out of 60 balls at range yesterday I hit about 6 shanks. They just come out of the blue and can't figure out why I hit them. It seems if I stand an inch further away than I should I never shank it.
I must say that the 1PS seems very easy to execute. I've only been playing a few weeks and can strike the ball very well most days and don't hit many bad shots. The main fault this swing is causing me is hitting it fat and it often has a pull if I do hit it fat.
I don't think I've hit more than a couple of slices in the last few weeks and barely every hit a fade either.
One of the things I've noticed has a major effect on this swing is your spine on the backswing and your hips. If you can turn your spine with as little tilt in any direction as possible and keep your hips as still as possible you can hit very solid shots. If you sway even slightly with your hips or spine it causes many problems especially with the woods.
