  • Corrected my swing. Please comment

    Hi all,

Here is the new video of my swing based on what was mentioned in my previous video. I tried to do the following things:
    - Feel more natural.
    - Not roll my hands during takeaway (I was doing it before to try to get the clubface to point up).
    - Try to focus more on rotating rather than sliding the hips on the downswing.

I seem to be getting a better impact at the ball

I have noticed that my right knee doesnt quite stay still. Is this something that I should improve?

Also, I have been teaching my wife to play as well. She is getting better but is there something that I should get her to work on? I am trying to get her to take the club back in more of a straighter line at the moment. I notice that her backswing plane is very flat and once she gets up to the top and starts her downswing, she changes the plane to the correct line.
Below is her video. She hits her shorter iron (7I down) and her driver really well. She struggles with her 5I though.

    Hi Matt,

Interesting point (can't see your video yet though). My wife also has a flat swing. I wonder if it's because ladies generally have weaker arms/hands and therefore are more inclined not to use a two-plane swing?

      Simon,

I think being weak does have something to do with it if the clubs that she is using are heavy. Most ladies club are light enough for them. Does your wife has ladies club?
My wife's swing used to be quite upright when she used to just pick up the clb with her arms on the back swing and not her shoulders and it became flat when she tried to swing more with her shoulders.

The thing that most people misunderstand(i think) is that the golf swing is only a shoulder turn. This is true to a certain extent but once your swing gets to the half way point, you also have to use your arms as well (not stopping the shoulder turn ofcourse!).

      Thats just my opinion though.

I've changed my back swing to the one this site recommends. Yeah If you look at the pro's they don't come up vertically but more round which I would have thought encourages a draw. However I was told by my club pro I had a good swing line or something, but i'm not playing too well at the moment so i've changed it.

Looks quite similar to the first video, but who cares looks like you hit a damn good shot, was it drawing? Yeah I think not rolling your wrists until past your thigh seems like a good idea.

          Hey Ricky,
Thanks for the tip. I am still trying to work on that. Just trying to do it bit by bit so I am comfortable with it.
I play off 3 at the moment but its those few shots that ruins my score. Just need to tidy up 3-4 more shots and My score would be better hopefully.

Only have been getting back to golf recently again so will continue practicing when i can.

          Matt

Try to keep your right knee at the same flex you had at impact throughout your backswing. This will help you tighten your coil.

You wife has a great setup, and her takeaway only has a small easy to fix problem. and that is her hands are opening up to quick. This is why her plane is very flat on the takeaway. Her shoulders and arms are working very well together.

Mike420, the shot was pretty much straight with a very slight draw. Pretty much my natural shot when I hit it well. The driving range's back net was only 200 yards but the ball was still on the up when it hit the back.

I have been trying to keep the clubface pretty much square until my hips. During the practice swing, its very easy to do but when it comes to the real shot, somehow my hands still open up a bit.

Mr Change, I have been trying to keep my knee flex as the setup. When I do it, it certainly feels tighter however I cant seem to hit it as consistent compared to when I move my knee a little...strange.....

I have been trying to get my wife to do pretty much the same thing now. The thing is, I never used to open up the clubface until quite sometime back when this pro at the driving range came up to me and pointed it out....damn..cant trust all the pros I guess.

Anyway, I played a round this weekend and the result was pretty good. Had a 73 (1 over) despite the fact that I only hit 4 fairways and 8 greens on in reg. My short game was pretty decent so its really I just have to tidy up those few shots that are wild... (when its wild, its pretty bad......)

What u'd play 2 over . Its really annoying all these Pros tell me different things. I just wanna know the right way. Theres no point playing with a fault in the swing.
