  • saw my swing on video

I compared my swing to sequence of David Toms since he is nearly same size and build as I am. My backswing is similar although he brings the club a tad to the outside in the takeaway. (I can live with that) The differences in our swings is painfully obvious later... in the downswing, particularly with the turning of the hips. My hips turn about the same as David's until just before impact and then they stop until the follow through pulls them the rest of the way. If I freeze both of our swings at impact I can see his hips and torso are open to target in excess of probably 50 degrees and I am open less than 30. I have been trying two of gregs drills (right hand and impact) and I think over time they will help. Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

p.s. I am a newbie and I taped my swing with camera sideways and used virtual dub to rotate 90 deg. and it made the file huge so I won't attempt to post it for now.

Thanx in advance for any advice, drills, thoughts, etc...

things to try start by hitting ball with feet together that will get you in tempo and balance. sounds like you trying to hit the ball so your getting arms over active. take slow back swings make sure weight is shited to back foot the concentrate on left side foot leg and hip (not the ball) rotating hard to start the swing. you should never be thinking of the ball it will just get you in trouble. once you get your hips rotating the rest will follow. i do this and when get in a good rythem the only thing im thinking is where the ball is gonna land. hope it helps
