  • Heavy rough shots

Sometimes when you have a bad lie in the rough and you can't take the club back from the ball without lifting it otherwise it will snag on the rough. What should you do in this situation?

Should you play the ball well back in the stance and take the club back as steep as possible? I feel that a smooth takeaway is very important for me and if I have to jerkily lift the club over the rough it causes bad shots.

In these situations, you should hover the club. Remember, if you rest the club behind the ball in the rough and the ball moves as a result of you resting your club, that is a penalty. Work on being able to hover the club and swinging with a steeper angle of attack.

Okay, next time I'm on the course I'll give the hovering a go, thanks.
