  • Initial weight shift in the 1PS

For those 1PS'ers here's a question for you

How much of an initial weight shift should there be when beginning the backswing. Reading that guys 1PS website he suggested there shoud be a noticeable weight shift on to the right side before the turn. So a shift then turn kind of motion, weight right into your right side early and then a turn?

I was experimenting with this yesterday and it felt like really good extension off the ball yet you always hear how too much of a shift off the ball is akin to a sway and means more of an effort to get the weight back on to the left side in the downswing

However I seem to this shift and turn motion sets me up somewhat better than staying really centered. Much like the old bump and hug the shaft drill ?

Interested to know if this fits with 1PS theory or not?

Now you've got me thinking .

I use a one plane swing and to be honest ,I've never given much thought to what my legs do.
As long as I get my arms swinging across my chest initially ,everything else seems to take care of itself.

After reading your post I hit a few balls into my practice net ,paying attention to my weight shift and there is most definitely a big shift to the right leg which does actually feel like a sway(although I know it isn't as I've seen my swing on video).

I posted something on this other thread about balance that may has something to do with this.

I think with the 1PS you don't consciously do anything with your weight. You just try and turn without moving off the ball and let your weight do what it wants. I think it will naturally go onto your right a bit and then come back but if you consciously do it then you'll get behind the ball and need to do some sort of compensation (like a hip slide) to get back which is bad for the 1PS.

I know a 1ps coach and he states that with a 1ps you weight moves because of a result of your body turning. When I was using a 1 plane swing my weight would transfer to my front foot as I would use my whole left side to pull my club down the plane line. I been using a 2 plane swing lately and i start my downswing by transfer my weight through my legs and hips so I can drop the club into the lower plan then use my shoulders and arms to hit the ball with everything they have stored up.
