  • Stuck on the inside

After some advice/drills from to stop coming too far from the inside. This happens to me all too regularly when all of a sudden on the range or on the course I start blocking or duck hooking. Im sure this is because the club is getting stuck meaning I cant release my hands. I then start trying to aggresively release hence the hook

Im thinking maybe I need to check the following

    -Distance from ball
-Height - standing tall to the ball
-Keeping club in front of me throughout the first part of the backswing and second part of downsing
-Creating a steeper swing path .. should hands be directly over right shoulder at top .. hence I need more lifting than turning during the pivot

Thoughts? As I say this comes and goes and its very frustrating and I'd like to know why it happens and how to check it

wow no wonder your having problems how can you even think about hitting the ball with all that going on in your head. duck hooking isnt happing i dont think from coming from the inside, it usually happens when your trying to kill the ball and your swinging so hard that your pushing yourself back behind the ball to much and your hands are starting to turn over going into the follow thru causing closed club face and a severe hook. set up with weight in the balls of your feet and you will find the ball position, work on a balanced swing full shoulder turn, make sure your not swayingtrying to get more power aliitle sway couple inches is ok but sounds like your lunging. tee up 10 balls or so without worring where they go set up and make and easy balanced swing and hold your finish till ball lands, then right away go to next with no thought exept balance and holding you finish hit the next and so on. youll be amazed how efortless it feels and how far the ball will go. hope it helps

      Re: Stuck on the inside

I have had similar problems with "quacking" drives and I found that the simpleist fix for me was installing oversize grips. It turned a nastly duck into a lovely draw. I now feel that I can freely realease driver with no worries because the oversize grips will slow the closing action of the clubhead through impact.

      Hope this may help.
p.s. You can also build up the butt end of club with grip tape before installing normal grips and get same benefit.

        Re: Stuck on the inside

Had a friend help me out last night and it seems my backswing plane had got way too steep initially and then way too flat at the end . He said it looked like a zig-zag

I think I get too this unenviabale position by trying to force the club back too far trying to get extension off the ball, instead of letting it track to the inside some. My left arm was disconnecting from my chest and from there when I turned it had to be very flat to get it up and around

My pal took some chalk and drew a nice large semi circle on the range mat (probably get banned now!) and tracking the club back along that line worked wonders

Its a habit I'll have to watch I dont fall back into when Im trying to hit long. I think its caused by a pre-occupation with getting extension in the early part of the swing
