  • Spine angle

Does anyone know of any drills to maintain spine angle through the hitting area? I filmed my swing at the range recently and saw that my spine is straightening at impact and I'm coming out of the shot which is causing all kinds of problems!!
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Re: Spine angle

My coach would stand facing me, and hold the butt of a driver at my nose.
One other possibility is that you are standing up on your back leg. That can cause your spine angle to raise too if your not careful. Keeping a good squat in the back leg helps the angle stay still.
Thinking about the back leg as a screw going into the truf as you go back helps. Even letting it flex downwards slightly until you get the true feel helps. Too much of course is too much.
The idea of raising the arms is usually enough to get some to think they need to help the arms up. When all you need to do it let them reach your chin, and that is their stopping point. This way you are separating the two arms away from the body, and not thinking them as one piece (body and arms). In the rotational aspect, yes they like to be thought of as a unit, but this is not your problem.

      Re: Spine angle

I just want to thank the person that posted the thread in which he/she (you know who you are) said they were working on "keeping their right hand in a classic waiter position at the top of the swing". I was in the range last night and tried this drill, all I can say is that I've never hit the sweet spot on my driver so many times in a row!! I maybe hit 25 drives and maybe 3 were not bang outta the middle of that sweetest of sweet spots, even these 'mishits' flew long and relatively straight. I must've added 10-15 yards (I'm in Ireland and it's very cold at the moment, so that's saying a lot) and was a LOT straighter too. I felt so loaded at the top that I felt I could hit the ball as hard as I wanted and still flush it! I noticed that my plane was a bit flatter and therefore I had to stay down through the hitting zone so ultimately this drill has seemed to help me from losing my spine angle at impact. Thanks again.....HAPPY DAYS
