in the last few months I have really been focusing on learning how to achieve good impact position. I have know about hands ahead at impact but there is more to it then just that. Now I realize that the front wrist should be flat, or close to it, the rear wrist should be cupped, and the rear elbow bent at impact. If the rear elbow is straight then that makes it easy to flip the rear hand into impact, but if it is bent then it makes it harder to flip. Why is it that I have not heard much about the importance of the rear elbow being bent?

Re: impact
I think most classic instruction refers to full extension of both arms only after impact. This infers a bent right elbow at impact. If you follow baseball, you'll notice in slow motion that the power hitters all have their trailing arm bent at impact. This is the position that allows them to transfer the most power into the ball.
I think instructors don't focus on the rear elbow at impact because it is easier to visualize full extension after impact instead of a specific elbow position at impact. That elbow position may be different for everyone but still bent.
