  • Elbows

I was watching Tim Clark (SA), today and the commentator mentioned how he deliberately squeezes his elbows together at address. What's the purpose of this and how close together should your elbows be?

I've tried it without actually swinging the club and to me, it seems like there's too much tension in my arms.

    Re: Elbows

This is just to keep his takeaway from getting too armsy, it basically helps him to make one piece takeaway and keeps him connected throughout the swing. Check out ben hogans 5 lessons, he says "keep the elbows and arms as close together as possible throughout the entire swing" there is an accompanying image of his forearms bound together with rope and he explains the whole theory behind it. Personally it doesn't work for me, my arms and shoulders feel to tense when I try it. try swinging with a headcover under your left armpit and it shouldn't drop to the ground until near the end of your follow through.
